Over 2,000 years ago, Jesus and the Disciples faced political challenges and persecution from every direction. Despite that turbulence, with Satan trying to distract them, Jesus taught his Disciples to focus on the main thing: The Gospel.
We’re in turbulent times now. And Satan is still trying to lead Jesus’ followers astray. Let’s not get distracted by today’s headlines. God hasn’t changed the focus he gave us over 2,000 years ago. We can be steadfast and purposeful about sharing the Gospel. It’s the root solution to all our problems!
And the love of Christ flowing through us is the greatest and most excellent thing, and is at the root of the Gospel. (1 Corinthians 12:31, 1 John chapter 4).
How do we do this ? Let me give you an example with a story about “Taylor”.
While shopping, she observed a burka-clad woman trying to corral her two energy-filled toddlers. One flopped to the floor in a full-scale temper tantrum, knocking over a display in the process. Everyone stopped to stare. Taylor sprang into action, approached the woman and said: “Your children are beautiful. I have children too and they can be a handful at times. Let me help you.” The distraught Muslim mother burst into uncontrollable tears. Taylor led the toddlers to surround their mom and they all gave her a group hug.
A friendship was born out of that Christ-like, loving act. Because Taylor kept her focus on loving God and loving others – rather than getting distracted by the social and political turmoil of the day – that burka-clad mom, “Imam,” is now a follower of Jesus who’s being discipled by Taylor and her friends.
Regardless of your view on the current political and media situation, God gives each of us the opportunity to display the love of Christ every day. Like Taylor, we can shine His light into darkness. The love of Christ flowing through a Christian, especially during these turbulent times, is simply irresistible.
We have unprecedented Gospel opportunities to help change the world! Please share with me how God is working through you in this situation. Just email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. The story you share may help inspire others to join God on His mission.
